  • Born on February 15, 1564 in Pisa, Tuscany
  • Died on January 8, 1642


Theory
  • His theory agreed with Copernicus that there was a sun centered universe, but the planets ran in elliptical orbits
  • With his telescope he found craters and mountains on the earth's moon, four of jupiter's moons, sunspots on the sun, and the phases of Venus.
  • Proved that planets are physical bodies like earth
  • He worked with microscopes, balances, thermometers, compasses, and telescopes
  • Galileo first observed Jupiter on January 7, 1610 through a homemade telescope
Early Life
  • He was the eldest of six children
  • Moved to Florence when he was hardly 8 but left him with Jacopo Borghini for two years

Adult Life
  • When he was 25, he became a professor of mathematics at the University of Pisa.
  • Instead of completing his degree, he started studying mathematics.
  • In 1589 he was appointed to the chair of mathematics in Pisa
  • He taught Geometry, Mechanics and astronomy at the University of Padua until 1610. It was that time when he made major discoveries in both pure science and applied science.
Family
  • His father was a famous lutenist and music theorist
  • He had a relationship with a lady named Maria Gamba and "supposedly" had three children

Fun Facts
  • Galileo's telescope reached it's 400 year anneversary on August 25, 2009
  • In 1586 he wrote his first scientific book called " The Little Balance"
  • Became Blind at the age of 72
  • The world saw him as "the father of modern observational astronomy" and "the father of modern physics"
